Birthday Celebrations Done

It’s been more birthday celebrations for S and L with a sleepover for S and a Magic The Gathering session for L. Given we started celebrations on the 9th February at Center Parcs and finished yesterday 22nd February, it feels like it’s a been a very long double birthday!

S and her two friends E and H reached the 3am point as being the last time whereby I requested they quieten down a bit!  Up fairly early eager to see another friend H join them for the day. By the end of the day we ended up with a full house of 8 children and 5 adults before the tiredness set in and the house looked like a bomb had hit it. One Successful teen birthday complete.

L had 5 boys around for a friendly MTG tournament whilst we supplied them with snacks to munch whilst they played. Serious business this MTG card game. About 4 hours in total for an age range spanning 8 through 13. Amazing the focus applied when you’re interested in something. Second successful teen birthday celebration complete!

In other non birthday social news, we’ve visited friends to meet their new little puppy who is very cute; S has had an extended art session with her tutor which took them on a field trip to a local art exhibition for more inspiration and A and W have been to Gymnastics.

New stuff over the past week from memory:

L requested the new David Walliams book, Awful Auntie in Audio format. Audible download sent straight to his new phone and S can listen afterwards on her gadget, if she’s interested. The last set of books, in total contrast to David Walliams, were the Hunger Games Trilogy which he actually read (rather than listened to) in a week. He’s also been in to Percy Jackson on DVD and we going to try Doctor Who as a series from the beginning. Otherwise it’s MTG, Skype, Roblox and Minecraft.

S continues onwards with her interest in anime through a series called Angel Beats. “In a world after death, angels fight for their fate and their future. Yuri, the leader of the Shinda Sekai Sensen, rebels against the god who destined her to have an unreasonable life. On the otherhand, Tenshi, the chairperson of the student council for the world after death, battles against the SSS members. SSS members utilize armed weaponry to battle it out against the angels harnessing supernatural powers.”

When she’s not watching Anime she is drawing Anime. When she’s not doing anime she’s skyping her friends and playing Minecraft.

A and W have found an interest in American Girl probably because of the connection with gymnastics and the movie we watched on Netflix, “American Girl McKenna, Shooting for the Stars”. They’re both still hooked on the You Tube Channels “Cookie Swirl” and “Gracie & Mommy Show” whereby they can be encouraged to buy more plastic toy junk. Or perhaps, they are inspired by being a You Tube presenter instead and the possibility of being sent free toys in abundance. We have conversations about this kind of stuff so they see through the advertising and it’s all good for learning. Plus they are constantly asking me how to spell various words so this must be helping with their reading.

Collectively and casually after dinner one evening, we explored *metals* with Twin Dad bringing home a bag of various nails and other building materials made from metal. Conversations about elements, alloys, iron oxide, steel, zinc, aluminium, copper and the word galvanised. I’ve emailed the RSC periodic table to the eldest pair for further exploration in case they might be interested, you never know.

It’s Monday again now and as I type, the weather flits between beautiful sunshine and heavy downpours. There was a chance that we might go to Playzone today with friends but we had to wait in for a delivery so succumbed to the PJ’s instead. It’s been a busy weekend in any event so people are content to stay home and embrace hibernation.

The Monster High’s have been making shapes.
