Fishbourne Roman Palace

Blue sky calling us out we headed for Fishbourne Roman Palace┬ánear Chichester in West Sussex. We are no strangers to Roman Villa’s having already visited Lullingstone Villa in Kent, Bignor Villa in West Sussex and Rockborne Villa in Hampshire but it was on our local list of places that we wanted to visit and the day was fitting so…. Entrance was 50% discounted with our English Heritage Membership and our two dinosaurs went free.

Yes, A and W are still very much on a Dinosaur theme so it was very much Dinosaurs meet Romans today. Walking With Dinosaurs is been put on the TV as I type.

Overall it was a great place to see Roman Mosaic Tiled Flooring plus the Museum and it’s artefacts. We also watched a short film whilst there but actually we found The Discovery Centre where they keep all their stocks of discoveries such as rocks, bones, pottery, glass etc for further examination and detective work the most interesting. We hadn’t seen a room quite like it before and it really gave a good sense of what goes on behind the scenes, the science that comes after the event of finding the treasures.
